1. Why Cold-Processed Soap Must Never Be Shrink-Wrapped in Plastic
Natural cold-process soap contains ~9.5% endogenous plant glycerin, a powerful humectant that equilibrates with ambient humidity. Wrapping true soap in polyolefin or PVC shrink film traps water vapor at the bar surface, causing:
- Glycerin Dew / Sweating: Condensation droplets forming inside the plastic film.
- Accelerated Rancidity (DOS): Trapped moisture and UV exposure accelerate free fatty acid oxidation ("dreaded orange spots").
